72 months in a further education at a centre thereof
• 36 months in inpatient basic education in the field of internal medicine and
• 36 months of advanced training in endocrinology and diabetology, thereof
– 6 months internistic intensive care, which can also be completed during basic education
– can be completed up to 18 months in the outpatient area

Further education content: Acquisition of knowledge, experience and skills in –

  • the content of the basic further education –
  • the prevention, recognition and treatment of endocrine diseases of the hormone-forming glands –
  • of the endocrine pancreas, in particular of the diabetes mellitus according to additional training, –
  • of all hormone-forming, orthotopic or heterotopic located glands, Tumors or paraneoplastic hormone production sites –
  • the prevention, detection and treatment of metabolic disorders including the metabolic syndrome
  • Diabetes-related diseases such as arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, lipid metabolism disorder –
  • the treatment of secondary diabetes and diabetes mellitus in pregnancy –
  • the early detection, treatment and prevention of diabetic complications including diabetic foot syndrome –
  • insulin treatment including insulin pump treatment –
  • nutritional advice and dietetics in metabolic and endocrine disorders –
  • the indication, methodology, performance and classification of laboratory studies of hormone-, diabetes- and metabolic-specific parameters including their precursors, degradation products and antibodies –
  • the recognition and treatment of andrologic conditions –
  • structured training courses for type 1 and type 2 Diabetics with and without complications, for pregnant diabetics as well as training in hypoglycaemia perception –
  • career choice and family counselling in endocrine diseases –
  • the indication and evaluation of nuclear medicine in-vivo examinations of endocrine organs –
  • the interdisciplinary indication for surgical, radiotherapeutic and nuclear medicine treatment –
  • the basic intensive careDefined examination and treatment procedures: –
  • Ultrasound examinations including endoscopic duplex sonography and fine needle punctures –
  • Endocrinological laboratory diagnostics –
  • Osteodensitometry –
  • Stress tests including stimulation and suppression tests
