The  Post Graduation in Internal Medicine in Germany includes the prevention, (early) detection, conservative and interventional treatment and rehabilitation and follow-up of the disorders and diseases of the respiratory system, circulatory system, the digestive system, the kidneys and urinary tract, the blood and the blood-forming organs, vascular system, metabolism and internal secretion, immune system, supporting and connective tissue, infectious diseases and intoxications, and solid tumors and hematological neoplasms.

The  post Graduation in Internal Medicine in Germany can be;

  • Post Graduation in Internal Medicine and Angiology
  • Post Graduation in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Diabetology

The  post Graduation in Internal Medicine in Germany Course structure:

60 months of which 

  • 36 months in inpatient care in Internal Medicine
  • 24 months inpatient training in internal medicine, of which – 6 months internistic intensive care, which can also be completed during the basic training or
  • 24 months inpatient training in the specialist competencies  (in at least 2 different specialist competencies) of which – 6 Months of internistic intensive care, which can also be completed during the basic further education.

  • the detection and conservative treatment of vascular diseases including arteries, capillaries, veins and lymphatics and their Rehabilitation
  • prevention, detection and treatment of metabolic disorders including the metabolic syndrome and other diabetes-related diseases 
  • the detection and treatment of diseases of the digestive organs including their infection, eg. B. viral hepatitis, bacterial infections of the intestinal tract
  • the detection and treatment of malignant and non-malignant diseases of the blood, the blood-forming organs and the lymphatic system
  • the detection and treatment of solid tumours
  • the detection and conservative treatment of congenital and acquired diseases of the heart, the cardiovascular, pericardial, pericardium
  • detection and conservative treatment of acute and chronic renal and renal hypertension diseases and their sequelae
  • the detection and treatment of diseases of the lung, respiratory, mediastinum, pleura, including sleep-disordered breathing; the extrapulmonary manifestation of pulmonary diseases
  • the recognition and conservative treatment of rheumatic diseases including inflammatory rheumatic systemic diseases such as collagenosis, vasculitis, inflammatory muscle disease and interdisciplinary cooperation, in particular for multimorbid patients with internal diseases, the interdisciplinary indication for surgical, radiotherapeutic and nuclear medicine measures
  • territorial infectious diseases including tuberculosis
  • territorial dietetics and dietetics including enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • the symptomatology and functional importance of Age changes and diseases and disabilities of older age and their therapy
  • the geriatric diagnostic method for the detection of organ-related and overarching motor, emotional and cognitive functional limitations
  • the treatment of seriously ill and dying patients including palliative medical measures – basic intensive care
Defined examination and treatment procedures:

 

  • Echocardiography and Doppler / Duplex examinations of the heart and the vessels close to the heart
  • Participation in bronchoscopy including bronchoalveolar lavage
  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy including interventional emergency procedures and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
  • Lower Intestinoscopy including endoscopic blood style
